Ontelix chooses Mail-Filters Anti-Spam Filter for its Family of
E-Office Appliances
Leading group applications supplier Ontelix adds to the
more than 2 billion messages a day currently filtered by the Mail-Filters
technology
San Mateo, Calif. – January 13, 2005– Mail-Filters.com,
Inc., developers of technologically advanced spam filtration
solutions with guaranteed detection performance, and Ontelix,
Inc., a leading supplier of web applications servers announce
the selection of Mail-Filters’ as the new anti-spam technology
for the Ontelix’s eOffice In A Box.
“At Ontelix, we realize that group applications that allow
employees to communicate and collaborate from anywhere increase
productivity significantly”, says Yuric Hannart, founder
and CEO of Ontelix, “especially for small to medium sized
companies. We offer low cost solutions (up to 70% less than MS
Exchange for total cost of ownership) that simplify the process
of integrated e-mail deployment, shared calendar, file storage,
and other web based applications implementation with ongoing IT
support for our customers. Stopping spam is a key part of those
solutions. The Mail-Filters technology, being used to as it is
to filter more than 2 billion messages a day, has proven to be
an industry leader at stopping spam. This is the leader we chose
to partner with.”
Ontelix’s eOffice In A Box is a plug and play device. It
works the way communication should work: seamlessly and transparently.
It provides customized domain names (like "John@anydomain.com")
with no restriction on mailbox sizes. It provides POP3, IMAP,
SMTP and web-based e-mail access. It offers full-featured e-mail
software, and group applications including web site hosting, backup
and restore service with assured network redundancy.
“We’ve always prided ourselves on breaking through
barriers that have baffled other filtering solutions”, says
Ben Westbrook, CEO of Mail-Filters. “We’ve developed
new proprietary technology that allows unprecedented catch rates,
false positive rates and throughput. Ontelix has taken full advantage
of that accuracy in its e-mail appliances. While other anti-spam
technologies may be better known to some, it’s been proven
that our technology offers significant performance and catch rate
advantages. The Mail-Filters technology used by Ontelix combines
two proprietary anti-spam weapons:
The Mail-Filters Bullet Signature Database that
enables the detection of spammers and the messages they send.
Bullet Signatures are small, targeted, and lethal spam signatures
handcrafted by human editors. Bullets are not checksums or hash
values based on the whole message or parts of the message that
are easily defeated by today’s spammers. Instead, Bullets
are based on a combination of attributes of the message that are
unique to that spammer (to eliminate false positives), and repeatable
from one spam message to the next. Bullets are most often crafted
from information in the body of the message, but can also be developed
using the subject or other header information. The Bullet Database
is constantly updated to ensure effectiveness and accuracy.
The Mail-Filters STAR Engine (Spammer
Tricks Analysis and Response
Engine) that detects spammer tricks, allowing
it to catch new types of spam, like embedded content, HTML, and
foreign language spam. It looks for tricks such as falsified information
in the headers and other places in the message, suspicious misspellings,
and other unique identifying characteristics of spam. The STAR
engine looks for very specific tricks, not general factors that
could generate false positives.
The Mail-Filters Anti-Spam solution is virtually immune to spammer
tricks, such as adding random characters to a message or common
misspelling of words. It also excels at finding the toughest kind
of spam messages: embedded content spam (such as pictures or HTML
with a URL link in it), HTML spam, and foreign language spam.
Heuristics and statistical models (Bayesian filters) have difficulty
detecting the latest kinds of spam without extensive setup and
maintenance on the part of the user.
