Ontelix Mail-Filters is dedicated
to eliminating spam for customers. Mail-Filters' unique
anti-spam technology is guaranteed to eliminate over 95%
of the spam, with no more than a 1 in a 100,000 false
positive rate.
Critical to our
success has been listening when our customers insist that
the false positive rate is as important as the spam catch
rate. Our engineers have analyzed how spammers get around
filters and how other filters mistakenly mark good mail
as spam.
The result has been the invention by Mail-Filters of two
new approaches for defending against spam attacks: the
Mail-Filters Bullet Signature Database that enables the
detection of spammers and the messages they send, and
the STAR engine that is used to detect spammer tricks.
The Bullet Signature Database
Our Bullet
Signatures are small, targeted, and lethal spam signatures
handcrafted using human editors. After spam has been collected,
Ontelix's Mail-Filters create Bullets based on key characteristics
of the message that are often repeated from one spam message
to another. Bullets are not checksums, which are easily
defeated by today's spammers, and are not based on the
whole message or single key words. Bullet signatures are
continuously updated to maintain effectiveness and accuracy.
Just the latest updates are transmitted to minimize download
time.
The Mail-Filters STAR Engine
The Mail-Filters
STAR engine (Spammer Tricks Analysis and Response engine)
looks for spammer tricks such as falsified information in
the headers and other places in the message, in addition
to other unique identifying characteristics of spam. The
STAR engine uses the Bullet Signature Datebase to scan for
known spammers and the messages they send. The STAR engine
is virtually immune to spammer tricks and excels at finding
the toughest kind of spam: Embedded Content, HTML, and Foreign
Language Spam.
